The Overview Profile

Five conversations that show you what no single personality test can.

Most personality tools give you one lens. One framework. One way of seeing yourself.

The Overview Profile uses five AI-guided conversations — each approaching you from a different angle, from the emotional drivers underneath your decisions to how others actually experience you. Then it synthesizes what all five saw.

The value isn't in any single result. It's in the convergence — where your patterns meet, where they conflict, and what only becomes visible when multiple perspectives overlap.

It's free, it's conversation-based, and it's built for people who want to understand themselves — not get a label.

Want the same depth in a single conversation? Try The Overview Flow. Want the full story of how this evolved? Read it here.

Why "The Overview"

"You develop an instant global consciousness, a people orientation, an intense dissatisfaction with the state of the world, and a compulsion to do something about it." — Edgar Mitchell, Apollo 14

Astronauts call it the Overview Effect — the cognitive shift that happens when you see Earth from space. Not new information. A new vantage point. One that makes the whole picture suddenly coherent.

The Overview Profile is that same shift, pointed inward. You already know the pieces — your strengths, your habits, your frustrations. What changes is seeing them all at once, from five different angles, and noticing what only becomes visible from that distance: where the patterns reinforce, where they pull apart, and what that tension actually means.

Five lenses

Each conversation sees a different part of you.

You choose a guide you connect with — the methodology runs underneath.

🌱

The Root

What's underneath

Surfaces the emotional drivers and unmet needs beneath your decisions. Gets closest to the things you don't usually say out loud.

🪞

The Mirror

What you're not seeing

Exposes the gap between who you present and who you actually are. Direct, provocative, deliberately uncomfortable. If it doesn't make you slightly uncomfortable, it's not doing its job.

🧵

The Thread

What keeps coming back

Collects your stories — career moves, decisions, turning points — and finds the recurring pattern. The through-line you couldn't see because you were living inside it.

🪐

The Orbit

The story above the story

Questions the narrative you've built about who you are and what success looks like. Where did that story come from — you, or the culture around you?

🌍

The Field

How you show up

Maps how others actually experience you. What role you default to in a group. What happens under pressure. Where intent and impact don't match.

What you get

A profile that leads with what's most interesting.

Your tensions come first

Where your patterns pull in different directions — Clarity vs. Complexity, Autonomy vs. Structure, Depth vs. Speed. This is the part most assessments can't show you, and it's where the real insight lives.

Clarity
Complexity
Autonomy
Structure
Depth
Speed

Convergence points

Where three or more lenses saw the same thing. Your strongest, most consistent signals.

Blind spots

What only one lens caught that the others missed.

Underneath, the profile maps across validated psychological frameworks — personality dimensions, values, character strengths, communication style, and purpose. But those are the building blocks, not the point. The point is what happens when they meet: where they reinforce each other, where they contradict, and what that means for you.

Big Five (OCEAN)

Your personality baseline — the broadest, most researched model of who you are across five dimensions.

Schwartz Values

What drives your decisions. Ten universal values, validated across 82 countries, mapped to what matters most to you.

VIA Character Strengths

What you're naturally good at — and what energises you when you use it. Not skills, but character.

DISC

How you work with others. Your communication style, decision-making tendencies, and response under pressure.

Ikigai

The reflective layer. Where what you love, what you're good at, what the world needs, and what creates value overlap.

How it got here

From a Claude artifact to a real app.

This started as the Multi-Perspective Profile — a Claude artifact with four conversations, each modelled on a real thinker. It worked well enough to push further. When I stress-tested the thinking, three things had to change: the borrowed names created legal risk, four lenses left a blind spot in behavioral patterns, and parts of the assessment stack had scientific or IP problems.

So I rebuilt it. A fifth lens was added. Frameworks with issues were replaced. The Tension Meter — originally an afterthought at the bottom — turned out to be the most distinctive element and moved to the top. And the whole thing became a real web app instead of a prototype.

The original artifact is still online: see where it started. The full story of the journey: how The Overview took shape.

The Overview Flow

Not everyone wants five separate conversations. The Overview Flow covers the same five territories in a single, flowing dialogue — one conversation that naturally moves through your drives, patterns, contradictions, narrative, and behavior.

What this won't do

A reflection tool, not a test.

This is a self-knowledge tool, not a clinical instrument. It captures how you see yourself — which shifts with mood and context. It won't measure how your mind processes information, and it won't diagnose anything. It's a reflection tool, not a test.

AI can infer personality dimensions from conversation with reasonable accuracy — but not perfect accuracy. The profile surfaces patterns worth exploring, not verdicts.

I'd rather be upfront about these limits than pretend they don't exist. Overclaiming is where tools like this lose their value.

Five conversations. Five lenses. One synthesis.
